Spring Color Trends for 2023: PUTTY

Have you heard that Putty is the new Greige?! If you haven’t, don’t worry… I just made that up right now! BUT I do think it’s true. Putty is a soft, muted Earth tone that leans more warm / beige (vs. Greige which is basically Putty’s cool toned sister). Do you ever have that thing where you look at a word way too long and now you can’t remember if it is a word?? I have that with Beige at the moment…

Anyway… Putty is the color of simplicity, soothing relaxation, comfort and trust. This neutral often gets a bad rap because beige can be considered “boring” and to be fair, you may get some side eyes if you answer “Putty” to the question “what is your favorite color?” However, these examples should help to prove that this hue is anything but boring! Putty is such a modern, intentional and interesting alternative to white in any design!

Inspiring interior design examples showcasing the color Putty:

We are changing this one up a bit and pulled all of our “Putty” images from the same designer (@wdesigncollective) and even from the same project! We did this for two reasons - 1. Everything about this home is jaw-droppingly gorgeous and 2. It shows a range of neutrals that feel intentionally selected for the individual spaces but also work together cohesively in a holistic context.

01 - We love the warmth created by the cream colored walls and the putty-toned chairs and sofa. This calm, tranquil space feels very grounded and the “pops of color” (rug, blue ottomans, and rust chair) work so seamlessly because they are earthy and muted. Design by @wdesigncollective.

02 - We are obsessed with this kitchen and although we will always love a bright white kitchen, doesn’t this feel like the modern version of that? We love how the putty colored walls and cabinets highlight the warmth of the Calacatta marble counters (a white cabinet might bring out the cooler tones in the veining). The walnut cabinetry and island counter also support the overall feeling of warmth, and you know we just loooove Walnut!

03 - I am going to go ahead and say that the plaster walls are the stars of the bathroom and bedroom design for me! Applying texture to neutral design elements is one of the best ways to add interest and depth to a space.

04 - The walls feel so rich, which allows the more organic qualities of the same-colored linen window treatments and headboard stand out. Both spaces in the Primary Suite feel soft, serene, earthy, organic and yet SO polished and current at the same time.

What do you think? This might just be our favorite color of all six color trends for Spring 2023!
