Spotlight: Ace Hotel and Swim Club

I have always loved the Ace Hotel chain, so getting the chance to visit their Palm Springs location recently was a total dream come true. Fittingly headquartered in Portland, Oregon, the Ace Hotel line does a fantastic job collecting inspiration from local surroundings and expressing an area's unique culture. Their Palm Springs venture is no exception; the hotel is decidedly mid-century modern and yet, SO.CURRENT. Seriously, spending time there feels like you are living inside an Instagram filter.

LA-based design firm, Commune, did an incredible job re-vamping an old motel and Denny's into the ultra-cool hotel/Swim Club/restaurant + bar/hip AF haven it is today. Aside from the noticeable nod to the rich architectural and social history of Palm Springs (read: mid-centch regency, fab getaway to the Hollywood elite), I also love their use of materials and texture. From the indoor - outdoor rock walls and the reclaimed wood doors, to the Macrame hangings and rad Kilim rugs everywhere, the whole establishment feels totally eclectic and perfectly layered.

I am totally planning to hang art with clips like they do in all the guestrooms. Image via

Even though this was a spontaneously quick trip, I felt totally immersed in the environment the Ace carefully curated. And in my opinion, that is exactly the way you should feel when on vacation. Cheers to you, Ace Hotel + Swim Club.

And cheers to not hiding the weird stuff.
